Creating a new website
So you want a new website, but you're not sure where to start?
To begin with, it will help you to get a clearer picture of what you need if you consider the following questions:
-
What style do you want the website to be (e.g. professional, fun, illustrative, welcoming).
It might help to think of the type of visitors the website will be aimed at the decide what kind of look will most attract and appeal to that type of visitor. Look at existing websites that you like/or that have a similar look to the one you hope to achieve and make a note of them. -
How many web pages will you require?
For instance, most website's will include a home page, about page, services/products page, perhaps a gallery/portfolio page, and a contact page. You may wish to include other pages, for example a faq page, or other pages that are relevant to your business/products. -
What colour scheme do you wish to apply to the website?
This sounds like an obvious one, but it's funny how many people have not really thought about what they want the website to look like! Of course if you have no idea about colours and want me to come up with a few suitable options I will be more than happy to undertake this as part of the design process. -
What is the main function/purpose of the website?
Think about the purpose of your website, you need it to convey the right message to your visitors and ultimately achieve your goals, whether it is to achieve more sales, gain more interest in your services, carry out research, or give visitors more information about your services/products, once you know the main function and purpose of your website, it will be ultimately easier to make a website that suits your needs.
